Combating Human Trafficking in Sports: Why It Matters Now

By G Rock Consulting  ·  Apr 5, 2026

Sport is one of the most powerful vehicles for exploitation as well as empowerment. G Rock Consulting explains why anti-trafficking work in African sports is more urgent than ever.

The promise of a professional career abroad is one of the most powerful draws for young athletes and their families across West Africa. It is also one of the most exploited vulnerabilities in the region's sports ecosystem.

Traffickers and fraudulent agents routinely prey on families who see sport as a pathway out of poverty — offering false contracts, fabricated trials, and promises of European careers that never materialise.

Our Approach

G Rock Consulting's social impact division works on three levels: education and prevention (through seminars and community awareness programmes), partnership (with IOM and NAPTIP), and direct support for survivors and at-risk individuals.

Through our Sponsor a Child programme, we provide direct educational, developmental, and protective resources for vulnerable young athletes. Our partnership with NAPTIP specifically targets Nigerians in Caolack, Senegal — one of the regions most affected by cross-border exploitation.

Together, we can build a sports ecosystem where talent thrives safely and ethically.
